The exclusive screening will feature never-before-seen production photos and welcome the presence of its lead stars, Philip Salvador and Amy Austria.
Lino Brocka, who stands as National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts and among the Philippines’s foremost auteurs, left the world with biting, unforgettable films that deftly explored politics and socioeconomic issues within the country that still echo today. And while the gritty urban drama Maynila, sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag (Manila in the Claws of Light) is no doubt the most globally famous among his titles—due in large part to Martin Scorsese and World Cinema Project’s involvement in its remastering—other works like 1976’s quietly harrowing Insiang (the first Filipino film to be screened at the Cannes Film Festival) and the 1979 neo-noir Jaguar (the first Filipino film to compete for the prestigious Palme d’Or at the 1980 Cannes Film Festival) also deserve credit as shining examples of great Philippine cinema.
