Kat Chua is a self-taught oil paint artist whose work explores the emotional depth of animal portraiture through classical realism. She combines a lifelong love for animals with expressive, Alla Prima brushwork, capturing the individuality and essence of each subject.

Based in the Philippines, Kat began her full-time artistic practice at 30, drawing inspiration from 19th‑century portraiture. Working alla prima, she uses bold, fluid brushstrokes to capture both the likeness and the deep affection she has for her subjects.

Her work invites viewers to see animals not just as subjects, but as individuals—worthy of the same artistic attention and sensitivity traditionally reserved for human portraiture. Though currently focused on pet portraiture, Kat’s journey is still unfolding as she continues to learn, experiment, and refine the artistic voice she hopes to carry into future works.
