Filipino artist Vicente Alvarez Dizon achieved international acclaim when he won first place at the 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition in San Francisco with his painting, After the Day's Toil. He triumphed over entries from 79 countries, including works by renowned artists such as Salvador Dalí and Maurice Utrillo.
Written by his daughter, the book traces Dizon's journey from his early years in Malate, Manila, to his formal education at Yale University, where After the Day's Toil served as his thesis project. The book also recounts the fascinating story of how this masterpiece was lost and eventually rediscovered.
