This is the first book to put together a comprehensive survey of Dominador Castañeda's life and work.
Initiated by his family with the University of the Philippines' support. It includes three essays: "Domining's Way" by his granddaughter Angela C. Melo, "Atmosphere of the Subject" by Patrick Flores, and "Dominador Castañeda and the UP School of Fine Arts" by Robert G. Paulino.
Dominador Castañeda, often compared to Fernando Amorsolo, returned to the Philippines to navigate between Amorsolo's conservative influence and the modernist movement led by Victorio Edades, resulting in his undeserved obscurity. As a teacher, he taught at the UP School of Fine Arts from 1939 to 1967 and served as dean from 1955 to 1961, mentoring notable artists such as Napoleon Abueva and Benedicto "BenCab" Cabrera.
Castañeda also contributed to art history by spearheading the reference book "Art in the Philippines" in 1964. His artworks are housed in institutions like the National Museum, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, and Lopez Museum.
