Jose Tence Ruiz, nicknamed Bogie, was born between Sta. Mesa and Mandaluyong in Manila in 1956. He studied at the Ateneo De Manila and has a BFA, Major in Painting, Cum Laude, from the College of Architecture and Fine Arts of the University of Santo Tomas. He is a Painter, Sculptor, Editorial Ilustrator, Graphic Designer, Action/Performance artist, Writer and Occasional Curator.

He represented the Philippines when it made a comeback to the 2015 Venice Biennale with a mixed media installation titled Shoal. He has had more than 30 One-person shows and over 200 Exhibitions in Manila, Singapore, Italy, China, Germany, Hungary, Cuba and Australia. He published and edited transit, a quarterly of art discussion for 3 years, from 1999 to 2002. He has written a book on the Life and Installations of Junyee, and has contributed to multiple anthologies on the subject of arts and society, and abstraction. He is married to Rochit I. Tañedo and has two children, Amihan and Spike. He lives and works in Tandang Sora, Quezon City, NCR, Philippines.
