Makata 6: Early Poets (1909-1942)

The volume compiles foundational works from the first generations of Filipinos writing in English, drawing heavily from the rare, landmark anthologies of early literary chroniclers Pablo Laslo, Rodolfo Dato, and Carlos Bulosan. It tracks the evolution of local verse from early imitative, romantic poetry heavily influenced by Western forms to the emerging, distinct voice of national identity and social consciousness. Featured writers include pivotal literary figures such as Fernando Maramag, Justo Juliano, Luis Dato, and Angela Manalang-Gloria.
