Malang Paintings and Drawings

The Malang exhibitions at the Museum of the Philippine Art shows the evolution of an artist from purely representational to more painterly concerns, and the gradual freedom that comes from the union of the painter to his materials, subject and form. The evolution has been spanning 25 years, but in the last five years has clearly revealed a growing sense of scale, scope and expressiveness.

The art of Malang is also a celebration of Philippine customs and rituals, observed with sympathy and insight through the symbols, rites and fixtures of the contemporary urban environment. It is the personal vision not only of a gifted artist, but of an active participant and observer sensitive to the color, texture and temper of a city he has learned to love and paint.
