In the dynamic evolution of the Filipino, the Ilocanos as a regional group from the north have emerged distinctly and impressively. The Ilocanos, in fact, have shared their indigenous values, idiosyncrasies and lifestyles to all other Filipinos, here and abroad. Conversely, Ilocanos have assimilated themselves pretty well in the respective communities they have settled in.

The book, THE ILOCOS HERITAGE, aims to capture the essential Ilocano, delineating his roots, folklore, customs and traditions, arts and artisanship, temperament, and generally, his legacy as a whole. In addition, the book features the famous churches and tourist destinations in his region. A number of prominent Ilocano personalities are included as well in an attempt to appreciate what have shaped them as noble exemplars of a rich and proud history. Historical photos as well as contemporary shots further enhance the book, the first of its kind on the Ilocano people.

The four original locos provinces — La Union, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte and Abra—are delineated. Each province boasts of its wealth of interesting data-—from its history, to crafts to cuisine to literature to landmarks to outstanding or exemplary men and women. These four provinces rise to be acknowledged in their united efforts. to make the Ilocanos a one- of-a-kind people. This book, therefore, pays tribute to all llocanos, by way of their original roots or affiliation or affinity.

To all Ilocanos here and abroad, this is your book. Salud!
