In 1959, Fernando Zobel held his first exhibition in Spain, with a number of works establishing and consolidating his abstract principles.
These included his now famous “Saetas”, some early pictures in his “Black Series” and a selection of drawings from chis important period in his career. A catalogue was published with an interesting text by Antonio Magaz Sangro.
In light of the renewed interest in Zobel’s work both in Spain and in the Philippines, we have decided to republish this catalogue, including an English translation to allow greater understanding and dissemination of his work.
We hope this new edition will stand as a memento and a sincere tribute, both to the author of the text and to the painter Fernando Zobel.
